The Environment
Feng Shui is ancient Chinese knowledge about the natural environment. For any individual, Feng Shui can determine his or her most and least favorable location in any environment. Vastu is a similar discipline that comes from the Indian culture and actually predates Feng Shui. Both practices appeared approximately 5,000 years ago.
The Mind
A healthy mind interprets a healthy body when combined with the proper environment. It can be said that when the mind is right, everything is right. We must tend to our minds, just as we must care for our environment. Like a garden, we must cultivate the mind. Just as the ancient Feng Shui masters meditated on a site to understand its “energy,” we can meditate to better understand and balance our energies.
The Body
We experience the world with our bodies. Our bodies are sensory instruments we use to experience everything in our environment. Naturally, good health results in a richer experience because the instrument of experience, the body, is properly tuned. The body-mind responds to its environment, nourished in some cases, stressed in others. It can be said that “the mind leads” the body. The body can only function properly when the mind is in a state of peace.
The inter-relationship of the environment, mind, and body is a complex system. When we approach each aspect of this trilogy in the context of a unified whole, the results will always be more favorable.
